Queen Mary graduate organises successful virtual events
26 September 2024
Recent Queen Mary University of London Biomedical Engineering graduate, Kameron Young, has organised a successful virtual conference and speed interviews event.
Held on Friday 9 August 2024, The Link Up aimed to inspire and empower young women and girls in STEM by offering them the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and engage in meaningful discussions.
With over 88 registrants and a 61.4% turnout, the event was a great success. Panels covered a wide range of subjects, from AI to leadership in STEM, with active participation from attendees. The topics covered include social robots, AI ethics, space and the vast opportunity within the field, advice from young women in STEM and genetics.
One of the event’s standout sessions was The Diary of a Girl Boss, which featured a panel of three accomplished women in STEM. The panelists included Queen Mary University student Balvinder Dhillon, and alumna Jeevana Thavarajah, Founder of Scientia News. The panel was also joined by Sophie Trevillion, an IT service desk analyst at RenaissanceRe. This session resonated deeply with attendees due to its open, honest discussions about the challenges and successes faced by women in STEM careers and drew many questions from the engaged audience.
Building on this success, Kameron is hosting an exciting virtual event of speed interviews for a mock AI Internship. The event will be held virtually on Thursday 26 September at 5:30pm BST.
Having met some of the team at the World Artificial Intelligence Cannes Festival (WAICF) in February 2024, Kameron has secured sponsorship from Institut EuropIA, a prestigious AI think tank dedicated to fostering public awareness of AI and supporting startup ecosystems across France and Europe.
Morgane Soulier, a generative AI expert and Brand Ambassador at Institut EuropIA, will be conducting the speed interviews during the upcoming event. With a wealth of experience in AI, digital transformation, and consulting, Morgane’s insights will be invaluable for students looking to sharpen their interview skills. Participants will have just 1 minute and 30 seconds per interview, providing a fast-paced, real-world experience to practice thinking on their feet and answering succinctly.
Since graduating from Queen Mary this year, Kameron has moved to Dubai to study for an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at The University of Birmingham Dubai. She was also recipient of the 2024 A.T. Oughton Postgraduate Scholarship from Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO). About the process of winning the scholarship she says "It was wonderful to be able to speak with the scholarship committee and share my vision for a bright future for Bermuda’s healthcare system."
