Third-year Chemical Engineering student Fasika Bekele gains the prestigious SEED Award
16 August 2024
Fasika Bekele, a student at Queen Mary's School of Engineering and Materials Science, was honoured with the Student Enhanced Engagement and Development (SEED) Award by the Queen Mary Academy. This recognition came following her outstanding involvement in the Peer Assisted Study Support Sessions (PASS) scheme during her second year of studies. In her role as a mentor, Fasika guided first-year engineering students by sharing a learning method she developed with her father during her secondary school years.
This method helped the students become more independent and grasp concepts, rather than just memorising information. Fasika believes that becoming a mentor was one of the best decisions she has made. The rewarding experience of seeing students reach their potential and hearing their positive feedback was invaluable to her. Students praised her PowerPoint presentations and the effectiveness of her "look, find, and magic" method, with some even asking if she could be their personal tutor.
