SEMS welcomes Dr Ian Collins who joins as Visiting Professor

Ian has recently retired from BP. Whilst at BP, Ian established and led their Upstream Chemical Sciences Unit from 2015. Ian was instrumental in diversifying Upstream chemistry into technical areas supporting the energy transition such as geothermal drilling, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, and hydrogen generation.

Ian is the author or co-author of over 150 scientific papers and is cited as an inventor on 43 patents.

As a visiting professor at QMUL, Ian will continue to develop sustainable energy solutions in the areas of geothermal energy and CCUS, and actively pursue projects and funding offering novel solutions that can be co-developed with the energy industry. In addition, Ian intends to contribute to chemical engineering teaching, in particular the 3rd year Chemical Engineering group design project of chemical plants.
