Recent SEMS alumni Billie Moore (2016) and 3rd year SEMS student Caroline Fletcher entered the first ever Zoo Hackathon at London Zoo. Together with other team mates they won the regional competition for their project LookOut! Their project boosts awareness of illegal inadvertent wildlife trafficking to tourists using an online platform that coordinates information on illegally-trafficked items so they are searchable by tourists’ destinations and devising a communications plan to raise awareness of the issue, including automatically embedding information at points during travel booking. The team are now entering the global competition with the support of ZSL Conservation Technology Unit to develop the idea further.
