Queen Mary QS world rankings.

9 May 2013

A highly-regarded global analysis of almost 3,000 universities ranks 19 subjects taught at Queen Mary, University of London as among the world’s best.

The third edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluated over 8,000 programmes from thousands of universities before ranking 678 institutions in total. Engineering and Materials Science appeared in the Top 200 – described by QS as the ‘world’s elite’.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject is considered to be among the most trusted of league tables. Rankings are based on academic and employer reputations and research citations per faculty (the number of times the research is credited in the work of other academics).

This is the first year the rankings have also included academics’ ‘H-index’ as a measure - a calculation combining the number of research papers an academic has generated, with the number of times the papers have been cited.

Later in the year, QS will also produce a league table giving universities an overall world position. In 2012, Queen Mary placed in 147th position globally in this table, a dramatic rise of 25 places since 2011.
