Congratulations to Angelo Karunaratne who successfully defended his PhD thesis “Analysis of Alterations in Matrix Quality at the Nanoscale in Metabolic Bone Diseases using Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction”. Angelo was supervised by Dr Himadri S. Gupta (SEMS) and Dr. Nick Terrill (Diamond Light Source, Harwell). At present, he has taken up a postdoctoral position in the field of experimental blast biomechanics in the group of Prof. Anthony Bull, at the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London. During his PhD, he has published three peer-reviewed scientific papers to date. Angelo was also awarded an Impact-QM scholarship (April – September 2012), to work at Diamond Light Source as a research assistant at the NCD beamline I22 during his PhD, on a knowledge-transfer project.
