2009 will see besides the start of the Doctoral Training Centre in Plastic Electronics the start of another four projects in the area of functional polymers. The four awarded projects are funded through the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI) and represent a total value of around £800K.
Two projects involve the development of new multifunctional nanocomposites including high-strength conductive polymer composites based on graphene nanofillers (Ton Peijs). The other two other awarded projects are on the development of novel smart polymer fibres with surface patterning through photo-embossing (Kees Bastiaansen) and the development of functional polymers for use in organic electronic applications (Martin Heeney).
