The Student Essay Competition is organised by the Higher Education Academy. The Academy's mission is to help institutions, discipline groups and all staff to provide the best possible learning experience for their students.

Every year the Centre organises a student essay competition to engage students from universities around the UK and offers a £250 top prize as well as three runner up prizes for the best essays on a given subject.
The competition is divided into several departmental sections, this years Engineering subject was "What makes a good engineering lecturer?"

Our congratulations go to Mr Yassine Houari, a current first year Engineering student, who has been awarded a runner up prize in this years competition.

The winner and the other runner up prizes went to fourth year students from Cambridge University and the University of Leeds.
