Taster Course: Sports Materials

Date: Wednesday 4 July 2007 10:00 - 16:00
Location:Department of Materials

Sports performance has dramatically changed since the first Olympic Games in ancient times. A look at the evolution of sport throughout history will show the importance of materials in this process. Tennis is a good example. An 11th Century tennis player would use their hands to hit the ball. This was followed by the introduction of wooden rackets, followed by laminated wood, then steel and finally the advance composite materials used in modern rackets. This taster course is filled with hands-on activities designed to illustrate the advances and new materials used in sport. So come and join us!
