Queen Mary Academy's Rethinking Pedagogy online workshop seminar series 'Educating for Leaders of Tomorrow' explores future-focused teaching and learning for the development of sustainability competencies and knowledge, AI literacy, student resilience and flourishing, transdisciplinary and experiential learning, in accordance with QMUL Curriculum 2030 priorities.
Dr Rehan Shah from SEMS will lead the second workshop as part of this series on the theme: "Promoting equity in education for sustainable development through community-based learning and teaching"
Two provocative questions for attendees to consider prior to the session:
What exactly is community-based learning and teaching (CBLT) and education for sustainable development (ESD)?
How can we effectively integrate ESD into CBLT modules to address equity issues?

Full session Abstract
Underpinned by collaborative pedagogical research undertaken over the past three years at QMUL and UCL, this workshop will invite participants to explore the use of community-based learning and teaching approaches (CBLT) to successfully integrate education for sustainability (ESD) and promote inclusive approaches within HE curricula. The workshop will open with interactive questions to explore attendees’ understanding of CBLT and ESD. Attendees will subsequently undertake a group-based mapping activity to identify sustainable development goals and community-based education activities relevant to different QMUL module outlines. Participants will see the relevance and applicability of combining CBLT with ESD to the development of their own teaching practices.
