Microsystem Technology and its Applications

Date: Thursday 27 January 2005 16:00 - 15:00
Location:UPC Engineering 148a

Microsystems, or MEMS, have caught the attention of many fields of science
and technology. Microsystems can be mechanical, optical, chemical and
biological systems but in micro scale, owing to the microfabrication
techniques developed from the microelectronics industry. Small is not only
a great saving of materials but also brings many other superior
performances and features that cannot be realised in conventional systems.
This talk will introduce the basics of Microsystem technology, how it has
progressed and the state-of-the-art, with a variety of applications
discussed. Various microfabrication technologies will also be introduced
to show how a Microsystem can be realised.
