Professor Shakesheff is Director of the UK Regenerative Medicine Platform Hub for Acellular Technologies and will be presenting a variety of polymer-based materials that enhance the presentation of cells and molecules at intended sites of tissue repair. Regenerative medicine presents new and interesting problems in the design of materials for use in patients. The material needs to become incorporated into the newly formed tissues whilst creating the optimal mechanical environment. The Nottingham team specialises in thermoresponsive materials that can be injected into the body and then assemble into a porous scaffold that allows blood vessels and tissue to form.
