Thinking Writing Exchange of Practice Forum

Supporting PhD and post-doctoral researchers as writers: writing retreats and more

Over the last 2-3 years Thinking Writing has been supporting writing retreats at Queen Mary for academic staff and postgraduate students. A number of departments are now running these ?in-house?. This meeting is intended as an opportunity to reflect upon and extend our understanding of writing retreats and to consider other ways of supporting postgraduate writers.

We are pleased to have Sarah Haas to lead the discussion. Sarah will talk about the Writer Development courses she currently teaches in Denmark. The courses are a combination of writing course, writing
retreat, and writers' groups for PhD and post-doctoral students in the natural sciences. The talk will centre around the design of the courses, some trial and error, and what has been learned in the last
three years of conducting the courses. Discussion, exchange of ideas and advice will all be graciously welcomed.

Sandwich lunch provided from 12.00; please let us know by Thursday 16/2 if you'll be there! (k.peake@qmul.ac.uk or s.mitchell@qmul.ac.uk)
