Starting University in September 2015

Congratulations on confirming you place in the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary. The first day of term is Monday 21st September. The first week is  Welcome Week; this week is when you enrol to the university and gives you a chance to meet other students, find your way around the university and generally find your feet before teaching starts. You will be e-mailed a timetable of actvties for Welcome Week to the e-mail address on your UCAS form.

Books

We do not have a reading list for students to purchase before they come to Queen Mary. However students enrolling on the Materials programmes (Dental Materials, Materials Science and Engineering, Medical Materials Science and Sustainable Materials) are recommended to purchase W.D. Callister, Materials Science and Engineering, 2006. 

For students taking Engineering programmes (Aerospace, Mechanical, Medical and Sustainable Engineering) the following books are recommended:

• James, Modern Engineering Mathematics, 5th Edition
• Meriam and Kraige, Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics, 7th Edition, SI Version (with WileyPlus)
• Meriam and Kraige, Engineering Mechanics: Statics, 7th Edition, SI Version (with WileyPlus)
• Philpot, Mechanics of Materials, 3rd Edition (with WileyPlus)

These books are all part of a book pack that can be purchased from the College Bookshop for a considerably reduced price, subsidised by the School and providing substantial savings for the students.
