Sustainable Materials
MEng (HFF2), BEng (HF22)
Structure
Sustainable Materials at Queen Mary is offered as either a 3 year BEng or a 4 year MEng. Both degrees are accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, which means students can progress to chartered status.
We also offer both the BEng and the MEng degrees 'with Industrial Experince' where students take a year working in a related industrial position. Students are payed by the company during this year which also counts towards their degree. This exciting opportunity gives students a valuable insight into future careers and enhances employability.
Students gain a solid foundation in Materials Science by studying core modules. In addition, students take specialist Sustainable Materials modules starting in year 1 but increase throughout the degree programme. In years 3 and 4, students are able to choose their modules from a range of Materials course options (see Programme Structure below). This allows students to tailor their degree programme to match their own Sustainable Materials interests and intended career intentions.
Throughout the degree, course material is delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals, problem-based learning and a variety of coursework. In addition, students undertake major projects.
The 3 year, BEng degree and the 4 year, MEng degree are identical up to the end of year 3 with the exception of the 3 year research project. Students with an overall average mark of greater than 60% at the end of year 2 are allowed to progress onto the 3rd and 4th years of the MEng degree.
The following structure is currently correct but may be subject to change in the future.
