Welcome to the postgraduate - or if like so many of our students you are from outside the UK - graduate - students' homepage for the School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) at Queen Mary, University of London.

We are very proud that in the latest National Student Survey (published 2011) results we were ranked as the top School of Engineering and Materials Science in the UK. Our excellent NSS result is complimented by our desire to see you succeed in your career and to help that we have a dedicated team that seeks opportunities employment and intern opportunities for all students within SEMS – this means that not only will you graduate with a new set of skills but that there will have been opportunities to meet your future employer while you are studying. Not every Engineering or Materials department can provide such a service and we are delighted to be in a position to be able to do so.

Now you are here, there is a wealth of information that we have gathered from your predecessors experiences and these can be under the pages associated with the wide range of exciting and stimulating courses we offer. The biggest difference from your undergraduate programme is the amount of time you will spend on a project and you will benefit from the vibrant and stimulating research environment as well as world class teaching if you decide to study here. SEMS has recently benefited from extensive investment in new laboratory space with a rolling programme of improvements in place to ensure that your experience is as exciting and beneficial for your future as possible. As you are now here studying with us you will also gain some benefit from the improvements that have been ongoing. We endeavor to provide you with the best possible environment to complete your degree with us and welcome any comments that we can use to improve your experience.

The department enjoys a wealth of collaborative links with like-minded research centres across the world, in the USA, Europe, and Asia, and a regular flow of international research visitors contribute to the lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere. In addition, if you are viewing the (post)graduate courses in the college then additional information such as the individual course lecture notes are made available as well as previous years' examinations papers, and other useful resources like an extensive database of potential employers that have expressed an interest in employing our postgraduates in the past. We hope that you will find studying here in such a multicultural and ethnically diverse environment, both enjoyable and stimulating.

Dr Eldad Avital I hope that you find what you are looking for, if not then drop me a line and I will see if we can improve the website still further.
