Dental Materials
MSc (J5S9)
Research Projects
The research project forms a major component of the Dental Materials degree course providing an excellent oportunity for students to participate in the internationally leading research taking place within the School of Engineering and Materials Science. Students work on a Dental Materials related project supervised by a member of academic staff and intergrating within the wider research team. Our MSc students have access to our excellent laboratory facilities enabling them to conduct cutting edge research leading to publication at scientific conferences and in peer reviewed journals.
Here are just a few titles of current research projects that are being undertaken by staff and students:
- Bioactivity of dental bioglass on dental surfaces
- Hydration of two different commercial glass ionomer cements and their association with its mechanical properties
- Mechanical properties investigations of a New Silorane-based resin matrix restorative material
- Micromechanics of mineralised biological tissues
- Size dependence of deformation of materials
- Yield criteria for small volumes of material
- Improvement of the performance of a protease biosensor for monitoring periodontal disease
